Description

中元節信仰源自於中國上古時代，又分上元節、中元節、下元節，合稱三元節，原是漢族的傳統節日，天子用以祭天、祭地和祭水的禮儀。



傳說，在七月半這天地獄之門會打開，陰間所有的鬼魂都被放出來了。

有子孫、後人祭祀的鬼魂，可以回去接受香火供養；無主孤魂就會到處遊蕩、徘徊。

所以人們紛紛在七月，舉行誦經祈福、普度、施食等活動。因為人們相信，在這天誦經、禮佛，並且布施食物給孤魂野鬼，慈悲的佛菩薩，也會幫助救度他們在地獄裡的親人，或者是遊蕩在無明世界中的有緣眾生，讓他們都能一起獲得解脫。

因此，中元節後來更發展到亞洲各國，如韓國、日本、台灣、新加坡、馬來西亞和泰國等地。
